A shadowy gang known as the Black Aces is terrorizing the frontier town of Sweetwater, threatening to murder those who don't pay protection money. Their calling card is an ace of spades delivered to their victims through the mail.
Hard luck rancher Ted Ames (Buck Jones) has been jilted by his fiancé, and has just lost his land and his horse to businessman Len Stoddard in a game of poker. As if things couldn't get any worse for the easygoing Ames, Stoddard's agent is killed while taking possession of his property, making Ted the prime suspect. Authorities discover the Black Aces' calling card on the dead man's body and immediately figure Ames for a member of the murderous gang. With nowhere to turn and a posse on his trail, his only hope is to uncover the true identities of The Black Aces and expose the men who framed him.
