The no-frills mystery A Walking Nightmare (a.k.a. The Living Ghost) was the work of prolific B-movie director William Beaudine. He helmed several notorious horror films, including Bela Lugosi Meets A Brooklyn Gorilla and The Ape Man, as well as numerous Bowery Boys comedies. The Ghost Walks, an antique "old dark horse" gem from the Golden Age of horror, was directed by Frank Strayer, best known for the minor genre classic The Vampire Bat, starring Fay Wray and Lionel Atwill. Together, A Walking Nightmare and The Ghost Walks are a rarely seen double dose of spooky chills from Hollywood's dusty film vaults.
A Walking Nightmare Following his mysterious disappearance, wealthy businessman Walter Craig returns to his eerie mansion in a strange zombie-like trance. Sharp-tongued private eye Nick Trayne is called in to investigate the bizarre occurrence and discovers a house filled with Craig's greedy relatives and eccentric associates. Any one of them may be a potential murderer who would like to see the tycoon dead and his fortune in their avaricious hands.
The Ghost Walks A harrowing storm forces playwright Prescott Ames, along with a cantankerous theatrical agent and his secretary, to take refuge in a sinister house of horrors. They learn this night is the anniversary of a brutal murder committed in the mansion. In reality, their host, Dr. Kent, and his houseguests are planning to preview a murder mystery play for the unsuspecting agent. But when the lights go out and a real murder is committed, the group realizes there is a homicidal maniac among them. |
